Solihull Wolves 5 - Eagles 7
From the Coach
On June 6th we travelled to Coventry Sky Dome to play Solihull Wolves in one of the nicest arenas in England.
It has been some time since our last encounter, so we were very apprehensive as to how the game would unfold. The Eagles start to the game was beyond our wildest dreams, putting three goals past their netminder in the first few minuets of the game.
Unfortunately we let the Wolves back into the game, conceding four goals to give the lead back to the home team. By the end of the second period we had managed to pull back a goal, only to see the home side move ahead again.
During the second break, we made the decision to cut the lines down in an attempt to pull the game back, and so I moved one or two players to different lines; this proved to be the turning point in the game, and we quickly made up the deficit and then moved ahead on goals. At this point we went back to playing our three lines and finished up winners by a margin of 2 goals, outscoring the Wolves 7 to 5.

Eagles 14 - Basingstoke Cougars 4
From the Coach:
This day was a turning point in the Eagles' development as a team.
After two away games, one at Cardiff last Saturday and the following day at Bristol, we have finally begun to realise the basic principle of the TEAM GAME of Ice hockey.
As a team effort today we came together as one, working for each other to produce the best team performance so far.
Yes we made mistakes, but Jara saved the day on these rare occasions, and some silly penalties were defended well without the Eagles succumbing to the pressure of the five on three and five on four power plays against us.
This I hope is the beginning of the run up to winning the Summer League Cup and go on to perform well in the play off’s of the Summer Cup in August; who knows, could we win the play offs and the League?

Kingston Cobras 10 - Eagles 3
We travelled to Hull Sunday 21st February, as we were invited to play Kingston Cobras in a Memorial Game.
Mike Forbes, who coaches us on Tuesdays and plays for Eagles as well as Kingston, lost his uncle recently. John Dale was Hull's number 1 Hockey fan, and this game, played after the Stingrays-Steelers Elite League game, was a charity event in his memory.
Eagles started well with a goal from #12 Peter 'Cage' Kostan in the first minute. Kingston replied with four goals in a little over eight minutes, from #4 Liam Sewell, #11 Alan Hague and #62 Kristians Otols (whilst shorthanded).
Cobras opened the second period with two goals from #19 Andrew Ward and another from Liam Sewell, but Eagles #18 Steve Percival scored soon after.
#5 Peter Vincur for the Eagles scored just over 4 minutes into period 3, with a spectacular spin-o-rama, but Cobras put four goals in during the next six minutes, thanks to #93 Gary Embrie, Liam Sewell’s third, #24 Matthew Barrett and Kristians Otols’ second goal.
The game was notable for the total of 112 penalty minutes given out, including match penalties for Eagles #51 Viktor Kolar and Cobras #14 Christopher Bailey.

From the Coach:
Despite the result, it was a disappointing start to the new season, nothing learned from last year.
One small plus: I was proud of the way some of you played in the third period, and we did not throw the game away.
The third period was played more or less to the rules and because of this we managed a win. Well done.
On the other hand as the team agrees the checking rules with the officials before the game,
they shouldn't complain and abuse the officials for upholding the agreed rules.
2nd August
Basingstoke Cougars 3 - Eagles 8
From the Coach:
The Eagles' last game of the Summer Cup was played out at Basingstoke. The final score of 8-3 to Peterborough was well deserved.
Theo was remarkable and scored five goals, two through penalty shots. Mason showed he has potential, especially when it comes to hard work and fierce checks, Chris with a team sprit that could win the Stanley cup, and your Coach, who on this day pulled you all back from the abyss and after one or two well spoken words brought you all together to win the game.
As we had shown when we played Swindon in their barn the previous Summer Cup game, we
have the spirit to win. Swindon may have won the League but they did not beat Peterborough Eagles.

Eagles 6 - Solent Scorpions 2
After the disappointment of last week's win being taken from us, we were determined to turn things around.
Again the Eagles proved that when they need to they can turn up the pace and play with both their heads and hearts,
we all knew that we didn't want this game to run into over time like it did on the away leg.
So we set out and showed them how we play in our barn,
when the final whistle blew we were 6-2 up, A well deserved win for the Eagles.
This weekend sees us travel to Sheffield to compete in the Rec-Fest, I'm hoping to get a good result and beat our previous efforts,
then we are home to Cardiff, with a full team I think that will be a good game to watch.

20th/21st June
Saturday saw a very poor turn out of players for the Cardiff game but the dedicated players who turned up for the game gave their all and fought to the bitter end. It could easily have turned out to be a win with one or two more players.
Sunday's home game in total contrast saw a full bench. This game was dedicated to Alex Spooner, a young Lady who at the tender age of some 24 years took her own life. Out of respect for Alex, a fellow hockey player who came through the ranks of the Peterborough Development Section, the Peterborough Eagles held a minutes silence in the dressing room, and dedicated the game to her.

Chelmsford Nighthawks 13 - Eagles 0
7th June
Solent Scorpions 9 - Eagles 8
From the Coach:
Saturday at Chelmsford saw the Eagles, without their three main players, go down to our worst defeat so far: 13-0.
Sunday at Gosport turned out to be a much better performance, fighting hard all the way through. At the end of regulation time, we were tied 8-8, having lost two of our best players to 2 + 10 penalties for checking from behind.
Even though at times Gosport tried to rough up our players, nobody took the bait. Even Darrell Allen took a punch in the mouth without reaction to give us one of many powerplays.
Unfortunately Darren Looze (USA…) had to leave the game at this point due to work commitments, and Gosport got their win.
As a footnote I would like to congratulate the players for their sportsmanship at the end of the game. We took some abuse but we acted as men should and held our heads high.

Coach's comment
With Dave Williams in the net, the first period v. Bristol was a hard fought game with a lot of good hits from both sides.
Going in to the changing room after the first period we were trailing by four goals.
Jaroslav Mikysa took to the net for the second period, which finished in much the same way as the first,
this time trailing by only two goals.
In the third period we came out with all guns blazing and won the period 5-4,
but it was not good enough to overcome the Bristol lead from the first two periods.

First Summer Cup win for Eagles in a colourful game.
Coach's comment
On Sunday we proved we have what it takes to play a disciplined game of hockey.
From the start we showed the determination to move the puck around the ice involving all the players in the game.
The forwards worked as a unit and the game plan we discussed was followed with a very good result for the team's efforts.

A game of Hat-Tricks...
Eagles came back in the third period to win, after a second period that didn't look too promising. #81 Michal Horniak scored the first goal of the game
after only a minute, but MK scored the other three in the first period.
MK scored a fourth early in the second period, and Eagles didn't reply until close to the end of that period with a goal from #5 Peter Vincur.
And then the game started for the Eagles. #34 Miroslav Mesiarik scored 1:26 into period three, soon followed by Peter Vincur's second and third,
both of which were assisted by #6 Darrell Allen. One of these was a cheeky lob from behind the goal which surprised the MK goalie and defenders.
Two more great goals from Michal Horniak gave him a hat-trick too, and sealed the game in the last few minutes.
MK's #68 L Stobie scored a hat-trick too and #35 Clarke got one.
At the end of the game, Eagles players chose MK netminder #30 K Taylor as Man of the Match, and MK players chose #5 Peter Vincur.

Coach's report:
Again we have shown we have the ability to score goals throughout the forward lines but we are making basic mistakes in our defensive play,
and are being punished badly for it.
As David had received an injury to his knee in our last game and could not play,
we managed to get GK Michael Lucas from Cardiff who played well for us against Bristol.
I would like to thank all the players who travelled this weekend and a special thanks to Matt who went to Cambridge to pick up Michal Horniak,
adding 100 miles to his round trip. Michal was playing for the Eagles after completing his two game ban for fighting at Hull.
Captain's Report - v. Kingston Cobras
Saturday 18th April
After some frustrating away results, both on the ice and with attendances, my hopes to secure a good result in Hull weren't very high,
but when the roster was known I knew straight away that we had a very strong team turning up. I knew we would give the Cobras a good close game,
I would have settled for a nice close game with 2-3 goals in it.
As with all Eagles travelling away games/trips, things don't always go to plan, with our net-minder and two players finding themselves turning up in
Tesco's car park looking for a game of hockey, they did finally turn up with about 5 minutes to get dressed. One of our forwards, Theo,
also turned up well into the first period.
The game, as you would expect started off at a very fast pace with high skill coming from both sides, we opened the scoring with a goal from Percy,
this was the only goal we scored in the first with the Cobras coming back with 3 unanswered goals, these were however from lucky break aways,
and we looked like we were definitely in control of the game. We must have out shot the Cobras 3 times over, it was only their net-minder keeping
them in the game, with 3-4-5 shots being saved in concession, most of which he was laying on the floor, standing on his head or just plain getting
lucky with his stick or the pipes.
The second period was ours, we came back to bring it within one goal difference, the Cobras leading just 4-3. Again, the tempo of the game was high,
the hits started coming from both sides, the Cobras were also starting to figure out who our stars were, but I still felt that we had control of the game.
The third period we managed to take lead of the game to make it 5-6 to us, it was clear that the Cobras weren't used to trailing, especially on home ice,
so they started to send out the big guns to both pick off some goals and to also draw our hotshots off the ice. They managed both, putting both Theo and
Michal Horniak in the penalty boxes and out of the game, they also managed to level the game, and this is where it stayed, final score 6-6.
This is a massive result for us, with many teams including us being on the wrong end of 20-0 defeats in Kingston.
MOM for us was #66 Jason Gray who had a solid performance in defence, though this could have been given to a number of players on the team.
This holds us in good stead for the Summer Cup, we played the best game we have played in a few months.
There is still room for improvement, but on the whole it was a great game, and bench coached well by Ken, making the right decisions to make the result.
Captain #10
From the Coach
With a delayed start and with Theo turning up after a five hour drive near the end of the first period, and only having one regular defenceman Jason Gray,
the Gould brothers step in to fill the gap. With Darren Looze, splitting the brothers up to play with the more experienced player gave the forwards the
confidence to attack the Cobras.
After scoring the first goal the Cobras came back at us hard & we went into the changing room at the end of the first period 3-1 down.
As the second period progressed, the Cobras were hauled back to a one goal deficit &
left us with the task of turning a winning period into what was now becoming a possible game win.
Before the game we would have settled for a low scoring game against us, now we were looking for a win 4-3 down with 20 minuets to go.
As the third period started we scored the equalising goal, then the Cobras pulled back into the lead.
We scored two more goals to give us the lead again. The Cobrs at this point with only minuets to go must have thought the game was lost.
Theo Zacour was taken out the game being given a double minor for roughing, after he was held down on the ice by a head lock,
resulting in a power play for the Cobras. Michal Horniak received a hit with a high stick which was missed by the officials,
the resulting fight giving the Cobras a five on three power play & they scored at 55.56.
the last five minuets of the game saw the Eagles having several one-on-ones as did the Cobras with the end result a 6-6 draw.
Sunday 22nd March:
Eagles played Solihull Vipers Sunday 22nd March and lost 13-9 in a hard-fought game.
Only one regular defenceman travelled, which cost Eagles some early goals.
Trying various forwards in the d-zone didn't seem to help, but after Matt Thomson and the Gould brothers dropped back into D, things started to improve.
The Eagles seemed to win the third period at least, with help from a strong line, including Darrell Allen, Steve Percival, Jon Tiernan and Tad Bieliauskas.
Sunday 1st March:
Coach's comment
From a registered players list of 38 players we took 10 players, Chris Hunt playing his first game for the Eagles in a close fought game, losing 6-2 against a side with 21 players on their bench.
I am sure had we taken at least two experienced lines this game would have been ours.
Summer Cup
We need to put out good teams in this competition and I am sure we will have very good results from our games.
Come on Eagles lets see what you are capable of
